Achieving excellence in education for all requires committed sustained appropriately-directed leadership and effective management processes. Leadership is particularly challenging in poor countries where preparation and support programmes for school leaders are typically minimal.

The REAL Centre will investigate leadership professional learning governance evaluation and management systems in schools and education systems in selected poorer countries with a view to developing innovative and sustainable policy recommendations.

The Leadership for Learning (LfL) programme explores the applicability to basic schools in Ghana of a set of principles concerning the connections between leadership and learning. It also researches the opportunities and challenges of introducing the principles nationwide and the impact of doing so on school leaders teachers and pupils.
